A magical gift

Dear friendly reader,

When I met with my book club this past weekend, I was presented with one of the most precious gifts I have ever been given — a Snow Child snow globe.

My friend Rindi used the U.S. cover for inspiration, and she sculpted figurines of the girl and fox and birch trees out of clay. She used glitter for the snow, and a mixture of water, glycerine, and rubbing alcohol.

What makes it particularly enchanting is that the snow globe is made out of a glass Mason jar. Those of you who have read the story might recall that Esther often arrives with an armload of goodies — jams and spicy vegetables — all in Mason jars.

When you tip the jar and stir up the snow, it is like peering into a miniature world. It’s truly magical.

Cheers!

Eowyn

Just wanted to say that I came across your book today online, and between the lovely cover, the wonderful premise, the gorgeous book trailer, and now your website and blog, I can’t wait to buy it. I am a writer and a reader and I love when a book sneaks up and grabs me like this! I hope you have much success with it and am looking forward to what sounds like a magical and delightful read!!

With a toddler running around, a husband, house and job to take care of, I think it’s amazing that Rindi found the time to make such a beautiful snow globe. Seeing the detail she put into it just brought tears to my eyes. Having a wonderful friend like her is a gift to be cherished! I am so blessed to be a part of the Bettys and to witness the love we share for each other.

  • How precious! What a great friend you have!

What a wonderful (and a little embarrassing) thank-you, Eowyn! So glad you enjoyed it. It was fun to make and it just didn’t seem right that Faina didn’t have a snowglobe!

At present, I am halfway through your book and loving ever tender, insightful minute of it. I don’t think I’ve been whisked away like this since the days of The Crimson, Violet, Green etc Fairybooks of my childhood! Your writing is delicate like snow and I am in awe of how you capture the pain and beauty of an aging relationship. Success! I’ll be pitching this book to my school librarian and my English dept. supervisor at our high school for either freshmen or an indie read.

    Cheers,

    Maria Wheeler
