Welcome!

Dear kind reader,

Thanks to the assistance of my father-in-law, Jim Ivey, I have several new readers in Florida. Welcome! I hope you enjoy my letters.

In earlier letters I have mentioned how much I love getting comments. It makes writing all the more fun when I hear from you. And you don’t have to limit your comments to the matters at hand. If you ever want to share a good book you are reading, or your own interesting Alaska story, or if you ever have any questions for me about Alaska or my novel, please write in.

Autumn is at its pinnacle here. The birch and cottonwood trees are golden, the alpine tundra is red, and the mountains are often topped with snow in the mornings. Inevitably the glacier wind will begin to blow all the color from the trees. But Mother Nature seems to be holding her breath for the moment, and the land is aglow.

Cheers!

Eowyn

On the drive home last week.

It is a most glorious time of the year, the colors are exquisite, the air as refreshing as ever, 60F is t-shirt weather, no frost yet so one can still go out in the garden for fresh vegetables and dare I say, even the freshly fallen white on the mountain peaks looks beautiful. Every day feels like I should be outside, for as you said that blasted Matanuska wind will sneak up on us sooner than later and then it will be winter and I can look forward to that first phone call informing me to look out the window at the falling white flakes and it will be time to dust off the skis.

  • Sigh…so beautiful. Your words and that picture.

I never get tired of the views along our highway, especially during this time of year where it is fall one moment and all of a sudden, it’s gone. I have the same feelings as Mr. Baer – I don’t want to waste a moment of the season, so the dog and I have been spending afternoons wandering our local haunts, looking at the beautiful views……after tucking in the garden, cleaning up the flower beds and all that other stuff, of course.

It is beautiful this time of year. And part of my joy in driving the highway is passing by the library under construction. Very exciting to see it grow!

I miss the color of changing leaves and the mountains.
